Fritz Stuns Zverev In Wimbledon Thriller

Fritz Stuns Zverev in Wimbledon Thriller

Fritz Rallies from Two Sets Down for Stunning Victory

Taylor Fritz pulled off one of the most remarkable victories of Wimbledon on Monday, rallying from two sets down to shock fourth seed Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-7 (3), 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

The American, seeded 13th, was outplayed for much of the match but refused to give up. He broke Zverev's serve in the third set and held on to force a fourth. Zverev then took the fourth set in a tiebreaker, but Fritz fought back to level the match at 2-2.

The fifth set was a battle of attrition, with both players holding serve until the 12th game. Fritz finally broke through to take the game and the set, and then held his serve in the 13th game to seal the match.

Zverev Unfazed by Defeat

Despite the loss, Zverev remained upbeat. "I'm proud of how I played, especially in the fourth and fifth sets," he said. "Taylor played great, and he deserved to win today."

Zverev's serve-game winning percentage for the year is 87.8%, but he was unable to use his delivery as a platform against Fritz. The American was able to break Zverev's serve six times, and he also won a higher percentage of points on Zverev's second serve.

Fritz Reaches Wimbledon Quarterfinals

Fritz's victory over Zverev is his best ever at Wimbledon. He will face Jason Kubler in the quarterfinals.

Fritz is the first American man to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since John Isner in 2018. He is also the first American man to defeat a top-five player at Wimbledon since Andy Roddick defeated Roger Federer in 2009.
