Argentina Defeats Canada in Copa América Opener

Argentina kicked off their Copa América title defense with a 2-0 victory over Canada in Atlanta on Saturday night. Lionel Scaloni's side controlled the match from start to finish, with goals from Julián Álvarez and Ángel Di María securing the three points.
Canada's young center-back duo of Kamal Miller and Derek Cornelius had a tough task against Argentina's experienced attack. The pair were caught out of position on several occasions, allowing Argentina to create scoring chances.
Argentina took the lead in the 57th minute when Álvarez scored a clinical finish from inside the box. Di María doubled their advantage 20 minutes later with a stunning free-kick.
Canada had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Argentina's defense. The result leaves them bottom of Group B, while Argentina move top with three points.
